Comacchio, Carnival on water
Entertainment, music, games and lots of fun. Free tasting of traditional sweets and hot beverages. Fun and entertainment for all the kids.
19 – 26 February: various groups, all of which have been hard at work for weeks to take part in this smile-inspiring, fun-filled race, will decorate ships. Children of all ages are invited to this exuberant event - better yet if they are dressed in the colours of the celebration. Once again, Comacchio is sure to present its traditions to the public with a theme that will draw large crowds to the capital of the delta.
A masquerade parade - on foot and by boat - will cross the streets and canals of Comacchio, starting from the monumental Trepponti Bridge and gliding across the characteristic canals during the famous “Carnival on Water”, while all along the streets costume groups parade handing out candy and sweets to the crowd.
Here’s the schedule for Carnival in Comacchio: in the dates mentioned you can view the parade of Carnival-decorated boats as they depart from the bridge, itinerant performances, fireworks, music and showers of confetti. The ships travel along Via della Pescheria and Via Agatopisto until they reach Ponte della Pitagora, at which point they continue down Piazzetta U. Bassi. Once they reach Piazza XX Settembre, they’ll find the King of Carnival who is waiting there to give gadgets to all children wearing masks. In addition, a prize will be awarded for the most beautiful, original mask of the festivities. Of course, acknowledgements and recognitions will be held for the groups that participated by decorating the boats. Finally, there will be an abundance of sweets, candies and the distribution of warm drinks.
